Spode Launch for Stoke Arts and Open Studios

Acava Spode Studios Launch for Stoke Arts on 24th September 2016

A celebration event to launch the 43 new ACAVA Studios at Spode Works will take place on Saturday 24 September. The event will also celebrate the completion of the Spode Rose Garden, by Airspace Gallery, and will be a first for the Stoke Art Map listing activities by other arts organisations in Stoke’s burgeoning art scene participating on the day.

The event will launch a three-month artist’s residency with Nicola Winstanley at Spode Works, based at ACAVA Studios, where the artist will carry out a ‘creative mapping’ of emergent arts initiatives in Stoke-on-Trent – capturing the moment in the revitalisation of the town. Nicola will help to produce a participatory artwork involving local people and creative workers, using printing techniques that reference ceramic printing pioneered at Spode.

The residency will open a longer-term arts programme based at Spode exploring the nature of ‘work’, with a series of artists’ commissions and residencies responding to the historic Spode site, reflecting on the nature of creative work and Spode’s changing role in the regeneration of Stoke.
